Welcome to Tunerate. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account and use Tunerate, we collect the following information:

• Email address — used for account creation, authentication, and password resets
• Username — your chosen display name visible to other users
• Profile picture — an optional photo you choose to upload
• Music ratings — songs and albums you rate within the app
• Comments and replies — text you post on songs and albums
• Follow relationships — who you follow and who follows you
• Notifications — activity related to your account

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Enable social features such as following other users and viewing their ratings
• Send account-related emails such as email verification and password resets
• Calculate taste match percentages between users based on shared ratings
• Display community ratings and statistics for songs and albums
• Allow you to report users who violate our community guidelines

3. Information Shared With Others

By default, your username, profile picture, ratings, and comments are visible to other Tunerate users. You can control who sees your ratings and follower list through the Privacy settings in the app.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

Tunerate uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (privacy policy)
• Spotify Web API — for searching songs and albums (privacy policy). Tunerate uses the Spotify Web API only to search for songs, albums, and related music information. We do not require users to sign in with Spotify or collect Spotify account credentials.
• Resend — for sending transactional emails (privacy policy)

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which is hosted on AWS infrastructure. We use industry-standard security practices including row-level security policies to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

6. Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will remove all your data including your profile, ratings, comments, follows, and notifications. This action cannot be undone.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information only as long as necessary to provide the service or comply with legal obligations. Once you delete your account, your personal information is permanently removed except where retention is required by law.

8. Children's Privacy

Tunerate is not directed at children under the applicable minimum digital consent age in their jurisdiction, including under 13 in the United States. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Update or correct your information through the app settings
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Change your email address or password at any time

10. Automated Decision-Making

Tunerate uses automated algorithms to match users with similar music taste based on their ratings. This matching process is fully automated and does not involve human review. You may opt out of this matching by not rating songs or albums, which removes you from the matching pool.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
